“Mr. Virendra(Sam) Singh sowed seeds of change when he returned to his ancestral village, and founded Pardada Pardadi Educational Society in 2000. PPES is focused on rural development, through education, employment and empowerment of rural girls and women.
Sam witnessed regressive customary practices of the caste system and gender bias towards girls and women, and dreamed of one day starting a school to begin to change this society.
Sam completed his engineering degree from Aligahr Muslim University, and moved to the US in 1963 to pursue post grad studies. He joined the DuPont Company in 1965 in the R & D Division and went on to hold various leadership positions in the company. He was President and Managing Director of South Asia DuPont when he retired in 2000.
Sam’s efforts have been honored both nationally and internationally. He has been the recipient of many awards, including The Real Heroes(2012), The Rays of Hope Award(2012), Gillette Blade of Honor(2011), Sat Pal Mittal Award(2012), Godfrey Phillips-Social Bravery(2009), Champion of Social Transformation(2011), and the Lifetime Achievement Award(2013), to name a few.
Sam has been featured in several tv shows, including Amitabh Bachachan. Sam won the Public Broadcasting Award for Gandhian Philosophy in 2010.
Sam’s dream for his country it to replicate his model of education and empowerment by reaching out to other organizations that share his vision. Pardada Pardadi is effectively changing, and improving the quality of life, for the people of Annupshar, Uttar Pradesh. ”
